At 12 years old, Nahli Curtis is forging her own path toward becoming a professional backcountry snowboarder. Growing up in the foothills of Michigan, where her local hill offers just 100 vertical feet, Nahli has spent her life finding unconventional ways to pursue a dream that seems unlikely for a young women from the Midwest.
A documentary 10 years in the making, Counter Methods: EVOLUTION follows Nahli from Mount Bohemia and the Midwest to the towering ranges of Utah and Colorado, documenting the tremendous effort required to make the transition from Midwest freeriding to big-mountain backcountry terrain.
Without coaches or formal training, Nahli relies on family, friends, and the snowsports community to expand her skills and perspective. Education and safety become essential as she studies snow science, avalanche awareness, beacon, probe and shovel rescue, CPR, and backcountry first-response techniques.
Along the way, Nahli connects with riders, guides, and other young athletes, learning from each while embracing her goal of creating space for more young women in the sport.
More than a snowboard film, EVOLUTION is a coming-of-age story about community, perseverance, safety, and a young woman determined to chase her dreams—no matter how unlikely they may seem.

Words can not describe how proud we are of Nahli and her passion to affect change in the world.
At ten years old she has developed her own voice. A voice that is strong and pointed, a voice that is equally backed up with actions and follow through. She is a shining star in our lives and the community in which we live, putting her heart on her sleeve for all to see.
Simply put, Open Letter is a call out the snow sports industry and community to include and feature more young women. A demand to be seen and heard.

We're excited for a new chapter in the Counter Methods saga!
This year we will be releasing weekly vlogs that recap our snowboard trip across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, parts of Wisconsin and back home for a very special moment at Mt.McSauba.
Life in a skoolie is different, unconventional to say the least, but very rewarding. We get to spend every moment of this journey together, learning as we go. With surprises around every corner our family was constantly challenged to find the best in every situation.
Success and failures, trials and tribulations, we experienced it all. But we grew closer with every day.
Join us as we recap an epic winter adventure!

Counter Methods is a documentary that gives an insider look at an epic adventure to the furthest most reaches of Michigan’s U.P, the Keweenaw Peninsula, and Midwest powder Mecca Mount Bohemia.

In a day and age where humans spend 50% of their days staring at a screen… Counter Methods challenges viewers to be MORE involved with their children, to encourage their passions and connect on a tangible level.
But that’s not it, there’s and elephant in this room… Women are still fighting for equality across the globe. An issue that affects society as a whole. Counter Methods takes a strong look at what it takes to flip the script on gender inequality through constant encouragement support.
